Email Labour's Shadow Front Bench to oppose £16.5 billion on UK's military budget

I am writing to express my concern at the Labour Party’s support for a £16.5 billion increase in the military budget over the next 4 years, which was announced by Boris Johnson 19 December, and confirmed in the Chancellor’s statement.
As you know, the government is already committed to a 0.5% above-inflation increase in the defence budget of a department noted for its overspending. It has been estimated that this latest increase on top of what has already been committed will mean a rise of between 10-15% a year in the MoD’s budget from the current £41.5 bn throughout the remainder of this parliament.
Furthermore, November’s announcement of an increase in military spending contradicts a commitment by the PM when he launched the Integrated Review of Security, Defence, Development and Foreign Policy at the beginning of 2020, that any extra funding would only be announced once the review was completed.
I do not agree that Labour should be supporting military projects such as the development of a Space Command or an Artificial Intelligence Agency during the Covid crisis, the like of which most of us have never experienced in our lifetimes.
At a time when health, social care, and other essential services are severely overstretched, when unemployment is rising, and the many families are struggling simply to get by, I do not believe Labour should be backing this hike in military spending. I strongly urge you and your front bench colleagues to reconsider.
